David Folan is a long-time student of the Watkins Academy of Irish Dance. During this time he has won many local, state and national titles and has travelled overseas to perform on the professional stage alongside the “Lord of the Dance” himself, Michael Flatley.
David is a five-time Australian Solo champion and he won the State solo championship 14 years in a row before travelling overseas to perform professionally. He returned to competitive dancing in 2009 and again won two State & National titles in 2009 and 2010. David has competed in the World Irish Dancing Championships 3 times and was placed in the Top 10.
With the popularity of Riverdance, one of David’s goals was to join a professional Irish dance production and tour overseas. In 2005, his dream was realised when he was asked to join Michael Flatley’s new show “Celtic Tiger”. From March 2005 until the end of 2006, David toured & performed with a cast of more than 65 dancers in Flatley’s multi-million dollar production. During that time, David performed in front of audiences in excess of 40,000 as “Celtic Tiger” toured through the USA, Canada, Europe & Asia.
In 2007 David joined “To Dance On The Moon” where he performed eight shows a week throughout Ireland. At the end of 2007, David joined German production “Magic of the Dance” which toured mainly throughout Europe (with a few weeks in Taiwan). During this tour, he was selected to perform the Lead Romantic Role.
David returned home to complete his Engineering degree and now works as a Civil Engineer as well as continuing to perform for the Watkins Academy.
